KARI BARBER
Kari Barber is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, international journalist and educator. Her documentaries have screened in film festivals around the world. Her feature-length documentary debut, Struggle & Hope, was supported by ITVS and aired on the PBS series America ReFramed.
In addition to documentary films, Barber has also produced live event journalism, virtual reality and an animated documentary about the death of her own son. She is currently the Interim Associate Dean of the Reynolds School of Journalism at the University of Nevada, Reno where she leads the Film and Media Production area.
Barber previously worked as a journalist in West Africa and Southeast Asia and as an investigative reporter including on documentaries for FRONTLINE PBS. Barber now serves on film festival selection teams, on the board of the University Film & Video Association, and as a Governor of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences San Francisco / Northern California region.
