2018 Nevada Woman of Achievement: Diana Eden
Diana Eden sat down with Carrie Kaufman in 2018 for a fascinating discussion of her thirty years in Hollywood, designing fourteen prime-time TV series, sixteen pilots, a plethora of TV movies and numerous feature films:
Diana didn’t start out working in films. As a teenager, all she wanted was to become a famous ballerina, but her height derailed that plan after one engagement in Swan Lake at age 15 with the National Ballet Company of Canada.
Following graduation from the University of Toronto, she started her New York dancing career, appearing in three Broadway shows and then graduating to principal acting roles. Moving to Los Angeles in 1968, a chance encounter with a producer once more diverted her, this time into costume design.
Diana spent the next thirty years in Hollywood, costume-designing prime-time TV series, pilots, and movies for TV, and feature films. Diana received an Emmy nomination for A League of Their Own, two more Emmy nominations for NBC’s Passions, and numerous Dramalogue awards for her stage work.
Since her move to Las Vegas in 2008, she has designed several feature films and stage productions, including Stealing Las Vegas, Red Herring, and The Trust with Nicolas Cage and Elijah Wood, as Assistant Costume Designer. Recently, she served as the Costume Shopper for Oscar-winning Costume Designer Mark Bridges for the film Jason Bourne.
She still teaches at UNLV for both the film department and the theater department with the course she created, “Costume for Film,” and has had the costume collection she started for the film department named after her. She continues to mentor students into the business.
