LAS VEGAS, May 30, 2023 – The Nevada Women’s Film Festival (NWFFest) announced their 9th annual four-day event. Festivities kick off on Thursday, June 22nd at the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). The diverse international lineup includes over 100 films from 22 countries, and represents a wide variety of genres and filmmakers, ranging from seasoned professionals to students and local talent. The screenings will take place throughout the four days of the festival.
Special events begin Friday, June 23rd with the Annual Nevada Woman of Achievement event. This year, we are pleased to honor UNLV alumna and acclaimed film editor Berenice Chávez. Her notable credits include the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary, Pamela, A Love Story. A screening of the film will be followed by an interview hosted by NWFFest board member and UNLV professor Brett Levner. A Filmmakers’ Reception at the Barrick Museum will top off the evening.
On Saturday, June 24th, NWFFest presents our 2023 Vanguard honorees, director Michelle Danner and actress Abigail Breslin for the powerful historical drama, Miranda’s Victim. The Nevada Premiere of Miranda’s Victim will be followed by a conversation with Danner and Breslin. Festival board member and UNLV Department of Film Chair, Dr. Heather Addison will moderate with the participation of faculty from the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV, co-sponsors of the event.
The film explores the story of the “Miranda Rights,” the legal disclaimers police must recite upon the arrest of alleged criminals. Breslin leads an all-star cast, which includes Andy Garcia, Ryan Phillippe, Luke Wilson, Donald Sutherland, and Mireille Enos.
The 9th Annual Femmy Awards will conclude the festival with an evening celebration on Sunday, June 25th. Categories such as the Spirit of Activism, Best Female Protagonist, Best Nevada Filmmaker, LGBTQ-themed, as well as student, animation, and documentary achievement will be recognized.

NEVADA WOMEN’S FILM FESTIVAL HOSTS, THE NEVADA PREMIERE OF
MIRANDA’S VICTIM
FILM’S DIRECTOR AND STAR TO BE HONORED
LAS VEGAS, May 30, 2023 – The Nevada Women’s Film Festival (NWFFest) announced their 2023 Vanguard Honorees, director Michelle Danner and actress Abigail Breslin for the powerful historical drama, Miranda’s Victim.
The Nevada Premiere of Miranda’s Victim will be held on Saturday, June 24th followed by an in- depth discussion with honorees Breslin and Danner. Festival board member and UNLV Department of Film Chair, Dr. Heather Addison will moderate with the participation of faculty from William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV, co-sponsors of the event.
Breslin leads an all-star cast, which includes Andy Garcia, Ryan Phillippe, Luke Wilson, Donald Sutherland, and Mireille Enos. The film explores the story of the “Miranda Rights,” the legal disclaimers police must recite upon the arrest of alleged criminals. Remarkably, very few people know the story of Miranda and how it involved a brutal sexual assault on a teenage girl, a case where “silence” is often forced on victims, their own rights and pursuit of justice unheeded and unheard.
Academy Award© nominee Abigail Breslin rose to prominence as “Olive” in the critically- acclaimed irreverent antic comedy film, Little Miss Sunshine. She went on to establish herself in roles in such diverse projects as Definitely Maybe, August, Osage County, Zombieland
and Stillwater. Breslin is a committed advocate and survivor herself of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Michelle Danner is a film/stage director, author, and acting coach. She is the Founding Director of the Creative Center for the Arts and the owner of the Los Angeles Acting Conservatory. Her past films include Hello Herman, Bad Impulse and The Runner. Of Miranda’s Victim, Danner says, “This is a story about courage and justice. Within the court of law, it was a case of personal justice, but what makes it fascinating is that it ends up becoming iconic justice.”
